What's New at Castle McKenzie

Spring 2006...
Construction of a 24'x36' two-car garage and workshop next to the castle begins.  Wood planks cut from trees that were on the property were stained and used as siding.  Doors were hand-made by the Laird.  Garage is complete.

Summer 2006...
Construction of a roof over the castle turret and terrace begins.  It is now complete.  A new covered entrance is built for the main level of the castle.  For security, the Laird makes spiked wooden grates for the windows and entry.  A moat and drawbridge are also planned for this entrance, as is complete stoning of the entry.

Autumn/Winter 2006...
Plans for main level buildout are conceived and begun.  Framing of walls is complete.  Expected completion of the entire main level is planned for spring of 2007.  Bradford Pear trees, (26), are planted lining the road and driveway. Grass seed and other shrubs and trees are planted.  A pond is planned for the center of the property.

Winter 2006...
"Keeper of the Key" program is conceived.  It entails the creation of a plan to offer "fractional ownership" of the castle and grounds to those who also dream of owning a castle.  See "Keeper of the Key" page for complete details.

Current plans for the main level of the castle include an eight-seat, giant-screen theater, a billiard room-library with a gas fireplace, a Scottish pub bar with a powder room in the lower turret, a guest bedroom, an Internet/computer closet with desk and high-speed wireless Internet, a full bath, linen closet and laundry facilities.  The main level will be furnished and decorated in a similar fashion as the second level living area, with heavy use of wood and stone throughout.  And of course to get to the main level entry, you will have to cross a drawbridge that spans the moat.

Summer 2006...
Shrubs are planted in new raised beds around the castle.  Huge wood ties are placed for raised flower beds and driveway.  Oak door trim is made by the Laird for the outside pub entrance door.  Stoning of the castle continues.
