New at Castle McKenzie in 2005 - 2006

Spring 2006...
Construction of a 24'x36' two-car+ garage and workshop next to the castle begins. Wood planks from trees that were on the property were stained and used as siding. The doors were hand-made by the Laird (that's me). The Carriage Barn is now complete and could be used for up to two cars, and includes a lot of work area as well.

Summer 2006...
Construction of a roof over the castle turret and terrace begins. It is now complete. A new covered entrance is built for the lower level entrance of the castle. The Laird crafts spiked wooden grates for the windows and entry. A moat and drawbridge are planned for this entrance, as is complete stoning of the front entry. There will also be a laid stone terrace or patio on the ground level leading to the drawbridge and moat.

Autumn/Winter 2006...
Plans for the lower level buildout are conceived and begun. Framing of walls is completed.  Expected completion of the entire lower level buildout is planned by 2008.  Bradford Pear trees, (26), are planted lining the driveway and road. Over 400 pounds of grass seed is sown. Additional shrubs and trees are planted. A fish pond pond is planned for the center of the property as well as a raised sitting area.

Winter 2006...
Current plans for the lower level of the castle include up to a twelve-seat, giant-screen theater, a billiard room-library with a fireplace, a Scottish pub bar with a powder room in the lower turret, a guest bedroom, an Internet/computer closet with desk and high-speed wireless Internet, a full bath, linen closet and laundry facilities. The lower level will be furnished and decorated in a similar fashion to the top level living area, with heavy use of carved wood and stone throughout. To get to the lower level entry from outside, you will have to cross a drawbridge that spans the moat. Or there is a staircase from the upstairs suite. Fute plans call for a tunnel to the castle addition when complete.

Summer 2006...
Shrubs are planted in new raised beds around the castle.  Huge wooden railroad ties are placed for raised flower beds and to line the driveway that leads up to the back of the castle. Oak door trim is designed and made by the Laird for the outside pub entrance door. And the stoning of the castle walls continues.
