I am sorry to inform our many past guests that we will no longer be offering our little castle as a vacation rental. We will be completing the lower level of the castle, then will be putting it on the market. The lower level will include a Home Theater, Family or Recreation Room, a Den, bedroom, or "Dungeon", and a Scottish Pub bar area in the lower turret. We are leaving the Pub area unfinished so the new Laird can design his own Pub, or add a lower level kitchen in that area, if he chooses. Outside access to the lower level is over the moat via a small drawbridge. There is a powder room, storage rooms, another roughed-in full bath, storage space, and laundry facilities downstairs as well.
Plans for the Laird and Lady's castle addition will be included with the sale, and include drawings and a cost estimate. Why? How could we? After working to build Scottish Woods for over nine years, and the castle for four years? After all of the blood, sweat and tears? Yes... and there will be many more tears. The answer to those questions... It is just time. We can't get any of the kids to move to NC to be close to us, so we will be moving back to Pennsylvania to be closer to them. What's that old saying about "can't move the mountain to Mohammed". If we could take it all with us... we would!
In the meantime... welcome to our Castle McKenzie website. Explore and enjoy. There is something for everyone... even if you're not Scottish. Much of the content is as it was when we were renting the castle, for informational purposes. So please excuse any references to renting. Our three-year young cabin in the mountain community of Five Forks has never been rented, and is For Sale now. It is nestled on 1.6 acres with mountain views, a stream below, and is adjacent to the Castle property. Our Florida lot, and the remaining lots adjoining the Castle property are also available for purchase.
